Koyasan Rengejoin 高野山 蓮華定院 | Japan Luxury Travel Agency

Rengejoin, a traditional Buddhist Temple, or Shukubo in Japanese, is situated in Koyasan, 500 m from Kongobu-ji Temple, located near the Mount Koya cable car station. Rengejo-in has interesting temple architecture, a traditional Japanese garden, and 46 Japanese-style guest rooms. Rengejo-in provides shared baths for both women and men, and “shojin ryori” or Buddhist Monk vegetarian meals are served to the guests.

Staying in Rengejoin, guests have the great opportunity to participate in mediation and morning prayers. Around Rengejoin, Danjo Garan and Kongobu-ji temple will be illuminated at night. Guests can take a walk after dinner.

Access
Take the Nankai Rinkan bus from the “Koyasan” station on the Nankai Koyasan cable line. The location is very close to the bus stop for “Isshinguchi”.


Types of Rooms

Special Suit (Kihin-shitsu)
Approximately 33-square-meter room with a bathroom, a sink, and a toilet. You can see a Japanese garden from a veranda and the bathroom. Traditional Japanese paintings are on the walls.

Suit (Tokubetsu-shitsu)
Approximately 29-square-meter room with a sink, and a toilet. You can see a Japanese garden from a veranda. Traditional Japanese paintings are on the walls.

Standard room (Fusuma-jikiri)
Approximately 15-square-meter. This type of rooms is divided by the next rooms with Japanese-style sliding doors, fusuma. These fusumas are decorated with Japanese paintings.


Shukubo

Shukubo is an accommodation experience in which the traveler lodges within a Buddhist temple. In Rengejoin, guests can enjoy buildings and gardens steeped in history, as experience elements of temple life such as morning and evening prayer, shojin ryori cuisine, and the transcription of sutras. And take a moment to escape from the rigors of the everyday routine, and rest your body and your soul.

    Every evening, the temple’s monks engage in Ajikan meditation, and Asokukan (meditative breathing). We encourage visitors to take the chance to experience this with the monks.

    You eat dinner in a large hall divided by fusuma, and the monks will serve it. We provide shojin ryori, a style of cuisine cooked in Buddhist temples. It is mainly composed of vegetables and suitable for vegans.
