Plum Blossoms Season at Suzuka Forest Garden
While cherry trees (Sakura) seem to be the most significant flower of spring in Japan, plum trees has also been playing an important role in Japanese culture. Japanese plum trees (Ume in Japanese) are the first flower to bloom in the year in Japan and it’s been adored by people for centuries as the symbol of the beginning of spring. Plum blossoms usually start in mid February and last till mid March.

Suzuka Forest Garden features a collection of precious weeping Japanese plum trees. Many of them are Kureha Shidare and some are classified in the largest class in Japan. This is a research and cultivation farm that enables the Japanese traditional cultivation skills to be handed on to future generations. The garden and plum trees are landscaped and maintained by experienced gardeners regularly.

The garden is open to the public only while the plum trees are blooming in the early spring. From white to vivid pink, plum blossoms in various colours flourish beautifully at the garden and create the picturesque scenery. In the night time illumination period, you can enjoy a spectacular view of about 200 magnificent plum trees in bloom lit up beautifully.


Suzuka Forest Garden Plum Blossom Festival 2022
Plum blossoms are in season before cherry blossoms in Japan from February to March, they are as beautiful as cherry blossoms. Suzuka Forest Garden Plum Blossom Festival is held annually during the period. The best viewing time for plum blossoms is usually from early March. The light-up is also held at night during the season. Suzuka Forest Garden Plum Blossom Festival is definitely the best place to enjoy plum blossoms in Japan.

Ease of Access

Taxi from Komono Station;
Bus number 62 from JR Yokkaichi station to Noda stop then walk 20 minutes;
Shuttle bus service is available between JR Yokkaichi Station and the Garden via Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station in limited period

Suzuka Forest Garden locates in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture. Suzuka city is famous for the beautiful weeping plum trees, which attracts visitors from all over Japan during the season.
