Meet Monkeys! Feed Monkeys!!

Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama is inhabited by a troop of about 120 wild Japanese monkeys. It located in Arashiyama area which is famous spot in Kyoto.

Each monkey has its own name and the maternal family histories and the year of birth have been completely
recorded since the park’s opening in 1958.

All monkeys are fed by people and they are wild and not tamed at all.
In order to conserve the wild nature of the monkeys and to avoid troubles between the monkeys and visitors,
they request you agreement at the ppark so please follow to enjoy.

Monkey Information:
The body length of the adult monkey ranges from about 80cm to 95cm. Males are generally larger than females.
They annually check their body weights in February.

The Japanese macaque is omnivorous, which means monkeys eat just about anything. They eat fruit, flowers, seeds, buds, roots, leaves, fungi and cereals.
At the park, the troop is fed wheat, soybeans, chestnuts, peanuts, apples, bananas, sweet potatoes and Japanese perssimons.

At any zoos, you can meet monkeys though, Arashiyama monkeys are just interesting animals and even cute!

Why don’t you visit and feed them? You might see baby monkeys too!
